Tooth decay is one of the most common
preventable diseases in children. Children as
young as 12 months can get cavities! Close to
40% of children have cavities by the time they
enter kindergarten.
Cavities in baby teeth can
cause pain and even prevent children from being
able to eat, speak, sleep and learn properly.
With regular checkups and preventive measures
early in a child’s life, many of these problems
can be prevented.
Fluoride dental varnish is
a safe, temporary protective coating that is
painted on teeth to help prevent new cavities
and to help stop cavities that have already
started. Every few months your child will be
screened using a mirror and light for early
signs of oral disease and the varnish will be
applied as well. Dental varnish can be applied
every 3 or so months until a child is 3 years
old, with a maximum of 6 applications.
